The William Thornton Floating Bar & Restaurant, commonly referred to as the Willy-T is one of the most iconic bars in the British Virgin Islands. The floating bar was anchored at a mooring ball in the Bight at Norman Island from 1989 until September 2017, when it was destroyed during Hurricane Irma. After being constructed in America, the new Willy T returned to the BVI on May 10th.

Temporary Tattoo
The owners decided to replace the original Willy T vessel with a new, bigger boat. The new boat will be almost identical with a restaurant section, a bar section and an upper deck, just a larger version. The Willy T is known for great food and memorable parties, waterski shots, and temporary tattoos. We are glad she is back!

Upon their arrival, the government told them that the boat was not allowed to moor in their previous home of Norman Island anymore. After a few stressful days, the Willy T has found a new home – Great Harbour Peter Island!

Willy T Manager, Ewan Anderson said, “It will be ok. It’s another location, it’s on the water, and it’s good for tourism — good for Great Harbour”. “We are happy that we can move somewhere as opposed to closing down the business. So, yes, we are happy, and the government is helping us to avail that situation,” he added. This new location is relatively close to the Willy T’s old site, but about 15 minutes away. Anderson believes that the Willy T will be up and running very soon. Great Harbour has about 30 mooring balls and more will come.
